MESSAGE FROM ADMINISTRATION

Dear MCS Families and Friends,

Since 1987, the mission of “building a firm foundation through Christ-centered education” has guided Mariners Christian School’s board, administration, and amazing faculty and staff in its advancement to become one of the top private Christian schools in Southern California.

Year after year, this mission is accomplished with excellence because of the unwavering commitment of the MCS community. As the stories and statistics in this Annual Report will attest, 2013-14 was a season of profound growth for our students, teachers, and school as a whole.

It is because of YOU – parents, grandparents, teachers, alumni, and other partners in education – that our students continue to have the tools and resources needed to become the leaders God calls them to be. These young ambassadors for Christ are prepared to move forward with confidence into high school and college because of the exemplary spiritual and academic preparation they receive while at MCS. Thanks to your ongoing investment in their lives, this firm foundation is possible.
We hope you enjoy reading highlights of student successes and experiences, as well as MCS’s strategic growth and improvement in myriad areas.

A school like MCS does not rest on past laurels; rather, we “Learn Forward” together and prayerfully seek God’s direction on how to better serve our students and families each year.

Please also join with us in prayer for 2014-15, joyfully anticipating the great things God has in store for our priceless students!

According to a recent survey, graduates consistently reported that their academic experience at MCS gave them “exceptional preparation” for high school. 100% of our Alumni are admitted to the private high school of their choice.

TOP ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE

Terra-Nova test results helped MCS assess academic performance as compared to local/national public schools.  Consistent with past years, MCS scores were strong, placing us above the threshold used to identify top performing schools nationwide in both math and reading.

The MCS community adopted the theme of “Love Does,” with chapels and devotions focusing on the simple concept that our actions reflect an authentic faith in Jesus Christ – even in the small things like respecting teachers and classmates and serving one another on the playground.

Team Truman!

Lt. JG Jon Weissberg gives students a closeup look at life as a Navy pilot.

“Love Does” culminated in a school-wide adoption of the U.S.S. Harry S. Truman, facilitated by Lt. JG Jon Weissberg, MCS Alumnus Class of '04, who served as an officer on board the aircraft carrier for its 9 month deployment.  As a result, “Team Truman” was born, and students rallied all year long to support sailors on the other side of the word with encouraging letters, $15,000 in phone cards, and care packages.
